Communications Director

NCL is the political voice of Nevada’s conservation community. We advocate for sound conservation policies, organize and train conservation leaders and advocates, work to increase civic engagement, educate and endorses candidates for public office, and hold elected officials and decision makers accountable on the conservation and environmental issues we work on; climate, clean air, clean water, protecting our public lands and open spaces, and public health and livability.

Position Overview

Nevada Conservation League (NCL) is hiring a Communications Director to lead the strategy, storytelling, and media engagement that power our work to protect Nevada’s climate, air, water, public lands, and communities.

This role serves as NCL’s strategic and external communications lead: shaping narrative direction, guiding messaging, and ensuring our organization remains a prominent and trusted voice on environmental issues and politics in Nevada.

The Communications Director works closely with the Executive Director, Deputy Directors, and Digital Media Manager to advance statewide campaigns and organizational priorities.

Position Details:

• Status: Full-Time, Exempt
• Salary: $70,000–$75,000
• Location: Nevada (Remote, with some in-state travel)
• Reports to: Executive Director

What You’ll Focus On:

• Developing and implementing strategic communications plans that support conservation policy, electoral work, and organizational growth
• Leading NCL’s media relations strategy: serving as the primary press contact, building relationships with reporters, and overseeing press events
• Setting organizational messaging, tone, and framing while ensuring consistency across platforms
• Partnering with the Digital Media Manager to guide digital strategy, platform growth, and integrated campaign execution
• Producing timely communications materials, including press releases, media advisories, statements, talking points, reports, and fact sheets
• Identifying opportunities to elevate NCL’s voice through earned media and strategic storytelling
• Supporting rapid-response communications and real-time decision-making with leadership
• Providing media training and communications guidance to staff and spokespeople
• Managing and mentoring communications staff while fostering a collaborative, feedback-driven team culture
