A small non-profit organization based in Portland, Oregon, Metafore promotes business practices in North America that advance the conservation, protection and restoration of forests worldwide.


Metafore works with leaders in the business, government, and nonprofit communities who recognize the relationships between the prosperity of their organizations, their responsible use of forest products, and the integrity of the world's forests. Position Summary:


The communication position is responsible for developing and implementing a proactive communication plan to maximize effectiveness in reaching targeted audiences with information about Metafore, its mission, and stories of success of responsible forest products purchasing broadly, and is responsible for ensuring consistency in the look, feel and content of the organization's communications array.


Metafore recently changed its name from the Certified Forest Products Council, to represent more accurately its commitment to bridging the interests of business and the environment through the smart and responsible use of forest products. An important part of the Communications position role is developing and promoting a clear and consistent image of Metafore's identify and purpose.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, refinement and implementation of organizations communication strategy and plan
  • Manage information inquiries and coordinates media and public relations activities
  • Implement consistent organizational look and feel across all publications, documents, proposals, reports, presentations, letters and other material
  • Research and write promotional and other communication materials, and coordinate development of publications and materials from collaborative conceptualization to writing, editing, copy-editing, proofreading, graphic design, production, and distribution
  • Monitor and report on all communication activities of staff and management
  • Monitor, qualify and recommend communication opportunities including various media, conferences, speaking engagements and other events
  • Support the success of management and staff in development of public speeches, publications, communications and other educational products
  • Develop organizational website and maintain accuracy and currency


Qualifications:

  • BA or BS degree a minimum
  • Minimum of three years experience in developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Proven technical writing and conceptual skills and ability to translate often complex thoughts and ideas of others into succinct and audience appropriate written material
  • Able to understand and synthesize abstract concepts and technical information; and able to research, plan, organize, prioritize, and track multiple projects
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal skills
  • Highly skilled in use of word processing (MS-Word), presentation (PowerPoint), and web authoring software programs
  • Able to work well in a team environment; be flexible, detail oriented, logical, and analytical; and able to set and meet realistic deadlines
  • Put forth professional appearance and demeanor, and maintain confidentiality
  • Business friendly and environmentally responsible philosophy compatible with Metafore mission and goals


Desirable Attributes:

  • Major in journalism or communications highly desirable
  • Knowledge of sustainability issues and forestry or forest products industry a plus
  • Previous work in public relations or ad agency a plus
