Position Overview

We are seeking experienced professionals to join our Commissioning Team to manage and deliver building commissioning and sustainability consulting services to major clients of the firm.

This team player is experienced with building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Candidates must be highly detailed, responsive, dependable, and have good task prioritization and mentoring skills. Excellent external and internal client relationship management, big picture thinking and continuous learning skills are highly desired.

The technically knowledgeable candidate will be able to work well with diverse groups and interests and have demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following: new or existing building commissioning, energy auditing, energy and water efficiency, and LEED green building rating systems. Some travel is expected. 

Responsibilities  

As a Commissioning Engineer, working in a fast-paced environment, you will:

  • Lead the commissioning process on numerous, diverse projects at varying stages of development
  • Provide commissioning process support including construction drawing review, on-site project inspections, MEP systems testing, project management, facility improvement measure development, and submittal reviews
  • Analyze energy use in the built environment, conduct energy audits, and calculate energy conservation measures
  • Conduct energy audits
  • Deliver green building design and construction assistance/coaching
  • Communicate ideas through structured message development and story lines, in multiple media types
  • Draw on your multi-tasking ability to support multiple project teams and deliverables on schedule and on budget
  • Produce LEED design, construction and operations deliverables and documentation
  • Conduct technical analysis and quality control reviews of work produced by others (LEED credit compliance, lighting and ventilation calculations, materials recommendations, etc.)
  • Identify and support the pursuit of new work
  • Be present in the metro Washington DC real estate, facility management, or energy services marketplace 

Qualifications & Experience 

Education 

  • A degree in architectural or mechanical engineering, building science or other related field 

Technical 

5+ years professional experience with clear career progression and experience in green building, including: 

  • Mechanical engineering experience with strong knowledge of building HVAC systems
  • Project management experience including managing to multiple schedules and budgets
  • Advanced knowledge of high performance building design, construction, operations, and maintenance parameters and familiarity with at least one LEED rating system
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

Client Relationship, Project, and Self-Management 

  • Uses strong consulting skills to identify complexity in tasks and projects beyond the obvious
  • Strong client service orientation; identifies client pain points and works collaboratively to provide solutions. Demonstrates ability to prepare and deliver oral presentations to individual clients and in training seminars; clearly and effectively communicating complex ideas and other business communications with minimal supervision
  • Possesses strong communication skills (verbal and written) and a collaborative, solutions-oriented working style
  • Knows how to ensure the task/project gets to 'done' on time and on budget, while meeting quality commitments
  • Successfully delegates work to peers to meet deadlines and commitments

Project Team Management 

  • Experience working with and on teams of 10 or more individuals
  • Conducts training and mentorship of less experienced peers to increase knowledge and performance levels in others
  • Successfully delegates work to peers to meet deadlines and commitments
  • A sense of humor and a knack for innovation and problem solving

Preferred Qualifications 

  • LEED Accredited Professional, Professional Engineer, Certified Commissioning Provider, BPI Building Analyst, and/or Certified Energy Manager
