Corps Bay Area is now hiring 30 Fellows for the 2013-14 Progam Year!
If you are passionate about climate change,
committed to making a difference at the community level, and want an
exceptional opportunity to develop real world professional skills that are
critical to building a career in this field, Climate Corps Bay Area's
Fellowship Program may be a great fit.
Climate Corps Bay Area is a 10-month Fellowship
program that provides incredible professional development opportunities for
emerging climate protection leaders through implementation of climate change
resiliency projects with local governments, nonprofits and forprofit
businesses.
CCBA Fellows:
•
Receive unparalleled experiential learning
opportunities through placements with regional climate protection leaders.
•
See first hand how to address climate change by
implementing assessment, education, and mitigation projects that have
measurable benefits.
•
Build critical real-world project management skills
as they measure, track, and report outcomes to community partners.
•
participate in a comprehensive training program
that gives an overview of climate change issues, strategies for tackling
climate change and approaches to building community resiliency in California.
Fellows will spend the Program year learning about
climate protection practices, developing professional skills for this field,
and implementing projects that galvanize understanding through real-world
experience. You will:
•
Participate in an initial orientation and ongoing
training activities throughout the fellowship
•
Directly implement for one or more climate change
resiliency projects (assessments, education, or mitigation)
•
Build awareness of climate change through outreach
and publicity efforts
•
Attend community events and presents information as
necessary
•
Track outcomes and report on efforts to community
members
Over the last three years, 82 CCBA Participants
worked with 36 Community Partners to:
•
Implement or accelerate over 75 GHG mitigation
projects which are projected to reduce over 16,000 metric tonnes of GHG
emissions annually.
•
Contribute over 130,000 hrs towards regional
climate projects.
•
Recruit and Support over 6,000 volunteers for
30,000 hours of service.
•
Facilitate 85% of Members to advance their
sustainability career.
For the 2013-14 Program Year (starting end of
September 2013), 30 new CCBA Fellows will work with nonprofits, local
governments, and businesses throughout the Bay Area on climate change
resiliency initiatives, including energy efficiency and renewable energy
programs, waste conservation campaigns, and sustainability education and
outreach.
Training:
Our goal is to both provide an exceptional training
and professional development opportunity to participating fellows, while also
having an impact on the communities we serve. To fulfill this goal, we are
committed to providing not only the experience of working on climate and energy
programs, but also creating a high quality training for our Fellows. Our
professional development concentrates on the following areas:
•
Developing Fellows to be strong implementers of
community climate change projects
•
Developing fellows to be emerging community leaders
and professionals
•
Learning about and enhancing fellows skills in
building community partnerships
During the Program Year Fellows spend at least 80%
of their time on experiential learning activities and up to 20% of their time
on training.
Experiential Learning Activities
The primary goal of the fellowship is to
"learn by doing", taking the baseline knowledge of climate protection
learned in a classroom into the workplace. This is accomplished through the
following kinds of project implementation activities.
•
Directly implement for one or more climate change
resiliency projects (assessments, education, or mitigation)
•
Build awareness of climate change through outreach
and publicity efforts
•
Attend community events and present information as
necessary
•
Track and report outcomes as a result of the program
•
Participate in the organizational culture of the
site placement to learn how it operates and what kind of career options are
available in that sector.
Training
Specific training will focus on two strands of
learning critical to climate protection professionals; Climate Protection
Policies & Practices and Climate Protection Leadership.
•
Climate Protection Policies & Practices will
address current climate science and provide a foundational understanding of
current climate protection policies specifically in California and utilize this
understanding to examine the range of practices being utilized to respond to
these policies.
•
Climate Protection Leadership will address the core
skills likely to be utilized by individuals in the climate protection field whether
in a local government, nonprofit, or for-profit setting such as project
management, workplace professionalism, leadership, communications, networking,
and job hunting
Desired Qualifications:
This is a full-time, 10-month fellowship program.
We are looking for recent college graduates who have a baseline set of
education and experience that they want to build on through this fellowship.
•
College graduates with environmental policy,
science or planning degrees with an emphasis on energy or climate are preferred,
but other relevant experience is considered (internships, volunteer experience
etc.).
•
A solid foundation of math and science coursework
is valuable.
•
Classroom experience with energy and environmental
policy.
•
Community outreach and communications experience.
•

In exchange for their service, each member receives

Living allowance stipend of approximately $1000 per
month (before taxes).

To become a Fellow you must fill out and submit our
online application and include an attached resume. Applications are accepted on
a rolling basis until all placements are filled, but applicants are encouraged to
submit the application as soon as possible in order to ensure the best chance
of being placed in an agency that fits your needs and goals.
Once the application is complete and has been
reviewed, applicants who qualify will be contacted for an interview. Interviews
for the 2013-2014 Program Year will begin in late July 2013. All new Members
need to be available and eligible to start by the end of September 2013.
