Description

Established in 1959, the Inter American Development Bank (IDB) is today the main source of multilateral financing for economic, social and institutional development in LAC.  It provides loans, grants, guarantees, policy advice and technical assistance to the public and private sectors of its borrowing member countries.

Position Overview:

The IDB is looking for motivated individuals to join a group of climate change specialists to work at the Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Unit (ECC) within the Department of Infrastructure and Environment (INE). The main objective of the Unit is to provide technical assistance, policy advise and knowledge products to member countries in the area of climate change, as well as mainstream climate change mitigation and adaptation into the IDB's operations. This posting is for current and future openings.

Responsibilities:

In order to provide technical assistance, policy advice, and develop knowledge products, the IDB is looking for specialists to work in the area of climate change. The candidates primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Mainstream climate change mitigation and adaptation activities into the IDB's operations;
  • Lead and coordinate technical activities related to the mainstreaming of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) into the IDB's group;
  • Provide leadership and analytical advise in the development and implementation of Policy Based Loans and technical cooperations to support institutional frameworks for climate change;
  • Provide analytical support (technical and financial) to the development and implementation of carbon finance activities for the public and private sector of the LAC region;
  • Represent the IDB at international events related to the area of climate change.

Qualifications:

Education: 

All candidates must hold a Masters degree in relevant field from an internationally recognized university. (PhD is preferred).

Experience: 

Minimum experience requirements of 4 to 10 years at national and international level, related to the areas of interest as described above.  Preference will be given to candidates with academic or policy experience in LAC. 

Languages: 

Proficiency in English and working knowledge in at least 1 Bank's official languages.

Competencies:

All candidates interested in the above mentioned positions must comply with the following Competencies:

  • Technical Expertise:  (a) Strong knowledge of analytical tools and quantitative techniques and methods to inform policy decisions. (b) Experience with similar projects and programs related to policy formulation and project implementation (public or private sector).
  • Strategic Thinking:  Ability to define and articulate a shared vision consistent with organizational strategies and results in the achievement of long term objectives.
  • Teamwork:  Ability to be receptive to new ideas and interact in groups.  Capacity to take initiative to assist others and willingness to share information, knowledge and best practices with others.
  • Initiative and Adaptability:  Ability to act independently and resourcefully in responding to work demands. Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and change.
  • Communication:  Ability of expressing facts and ideas clearly and in an organized manner in writing and in speech.
