Description

RiverSides is searching for a newly graduated undergraduate
or graduate student to coordinate its RiverSafe and
Municipal Low Salt Diet campaigns.

PURPOSE:

To coordinate work delivery of delivering RiverSides' major
two urban non-point source pollution prevention programs
under the Trillium Foundation funded Clean Rivers Campaigns
specifically - The RiverSafe Carwash Campaign, and The
Municipal Low Salt Diet Campaign.

DESCRIPTION:
Project coordinator intern for the The Ontario Trillium Foundation
granted RiverSides funding to undertake two campaigns,
RiverSafe Carwash, and the Municipal Low Salt Diet campaigns.
These seasonal projects each project consist of extensive stakeholder
consultations and events to demonstrate the benefits of non-point
source pollution prevention. Each campaign is heavily event oriented
and focusses on building collaborative efforts to demonstrate NPS
reductions in Toronto and GTA area municipalities.

The purpose is to encourage community and multi-stakeholder participation
for the RiverSafe Carwash (main events include the Earth Day April 21st
RiverSafe Carwash launch, the May 5th Festive Earth Rivers Festival), and
the Municipal Low Salt Diet (the Clean Rivers campaigns. Each project
focusses on establishing events and consultationsfacilitation of a day-long
training workshop for salt users and other stakeholders on November 15th
for up to 50 participants and a one day forum in January 2003 for up to
50 participants).

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ø Understanding of urban non-point source pollution prevention
principles and methods

Ø Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for community group
consultations

Ø Organizational capacity building including program development writing
and project tracking

Ø Clear and concise communications skills, ability to interact with
senior municipal staff and elected officials

Ø Campaign event planning, delivery and community outreach including
multi-stakeholder facilitation

Ø Basic computer skills (word processing, project management tracking,
database file management)

Ø Organized and self-motivated, able to work with limited supervision

Ø Coordination experience and administrative skills

Ø Must possess a valid Ontario drivers licence and be capable of driving
a large van

TASKS:
Ø Delivering the community programming aspects of both the RiverSafe
Carwash Campaign and the Municipal Low Salt Diet campaign.

Ø Media relations and development of media events for both programs as
required in consultation with community groups and other
stakeholders. Support the Executive Director's participation in national
CEPA Road Salt risk management instrument consultations.

Ø Ability to support the Executive Director for planning and implementation
of the overall RiverSafe Carwash Campaign including community car wash
events, stakeholder consultations, and media events, and to support
participation in the national CEPA Priority Substances List Risk
Assessment Instruments consultations.

Ø Coordinating volunteer efforts of community groups and stakeholders
associated with each campaign for the delivery of demonstration events.

Ø Coordinate and implement, as appropriate and in conjunction with
planning sub-committees, the activities associated with this project: e.g.
promotion, program development, registration, budget and financial
monitoring.

Ø Liaison with relevant community groups, leaders and stakeholders for
planning, promotion and participation in the campaigns.

Ø Maintain records and produce a summary report including the event
proceedings, and evaluation.

Ø Establish a regular reporting schedule to the Executive Director and
quarterly reports to the RiverSides Board of Directors.

CONTRACT AND REMUNERATION DETAILS
Ø Remuneration - $12.00 to $14.00 per hour, scaled - will depend on
skills and experience.

Ø Full-time contract position for 6 months starting April 8, 2002 and
ending October 4, 2002.

Ø Possibility of a six month to one-year extension depending on future funding.

Ø Applicant must be a recent graduate from a post-secondary institution
and under 30 years of age.
