Position Overview:
The Clean Air & Water Associate will assist the Director of the Clean Air & Water Program in achieving Upstate Forever's vision and goals for the Upstate and related strategies and initiatives associated with the Clean Air & Water Program.
The Clean Air & Water Associate will be based in Upstate Forever's Greenville office, but the position will include travel throughout the Upstate region.
Responsibilities:
- Educate local governments, regional stakeholders, and community groups/members on the fiscal and environmental benefits of sensible growth policies that lead to clean, abundant water and healthy air.
- Advocate for improvements to ordinances throughout the Upstate region that improve air/water quality and quantity issues through regulations, incentive programs, and increased regulatory flexibility.
- Build diverse coalitions to advance a common agenda of clean air and water throughout the region.
- Partner with local non-profits and private businesses to facilitate the use of tools and techniques that lead to improved air and water resource management.
- Investigate and establish innovative programs that lead to clean, abundant water and healthy air throughout the region.
- Represent Upstate Forever's positions publicly with elected officials, city and county administrative and planning staff, and the general public.
- Write articles for publication in local media outlets and websites.
- Lead outreach efforts to ensure public involvement at strategic meetings, through written comments, and in volunteer projects.
- Coordinate related educational conferences, workshops, speakers and training sessions throughout the ten county region.
- Assist the Director in developing plans, strategies, budgets, and funding sources to expand the organization's capacity to work on air and water resource issues.
- Assist in the identification of funding opportunities, preparing grant applications, managing grant deadlines and compiling required reports.
- Continually promote Upstate Forever in an effort to recruit new members.
- Participate in related local task forces, associations, working groups and organizations to assure clean air and water views are represented.
Compensation: Salary range is $27,000 to $32,000, depending on experience and qualifications. The position includes paid time off as well as health insurance and a retirement plan.
