Position Overview:
Greener Partners is seeking a talented Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead the day-to-day operational activities of the organization and work with the Executive Director to establish, implement, and evaluate the current strategic direction, develop and evaluate key human resources, and assist in managing the finances of the organization. The COO oversees Greener Partners Farm Operations, a portfolio of Educational Programs, our Market, Administration, HR, Finance and IT functions, and plays a critical role in delivering the sustained growth of Greener Partners as the regional leader in food systems improvement.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) reports directly to the Executive Director of Greener Partners and will have 6 direct reports. This position is located in Malvern, Pennsylvania, within a half hour drive from our sites.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the execution of operating goals to ensure the achievement of the Greener Partners' annual objectives and implementation of our strategic plan.
- Build the staff capacity to implement the strategic plan in the context of their position and interdependencies between departments.
- Develop and establish standardized organization-wide operating policies, processes, procedures, organizational controls and systems, including measurement metrics, financial management systems, and resource allocation processes.
- Establish, effectively communicate, and monitor specific and measurable individual and departmental performance metrics and goals.
- Lead Executive Team in regular, well-structured, effective staff and one-on-one meetings that track each department towards its annual goals.
- Direct company operations to meet budget and other goals, including expense, and program and project costs through monthly, quarterly and annual financial goal management.
- Act as an effective liaison between the Executive Director and staff enabling the ED to focus primarily on development, board relations and external initiatives.
- Regularly evaluate talent and capabilities of staff to ensure that resources and developmental tools are effective in enhancing performance at all levels.
- Develop operational specifications for all program initiatives, ensuring alignment across functions including distinct deliverables with clear delivery dates and explicit accountabilities.
- Work closely with department leaders (Education, Communications, Development, Agriculture, Administration, and Finance) to assure that results are tracking to plan and corrective actions are developed and communicated effectively.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee proper development and execution of the annual budgeting process.
- Prepare timely, candid, actionable, accurate, and timely financial and management reports and assessments to the Executive Director
- Oversee the preparations and communication of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Develop and utilize forward-looking financial models and program cost assessments to properly evaluate resource allocation across programs and operations and to accurately forecast programs and projects.
- Actively develop, engage, evaluate, maintain and report on strategic partnerships in support of the Executive Director.
- Foster a strong sense of partnership between staff of interdependent departments.
Qualifications:
- Minimal 7-10 years of experience in operations management of multiple sites with 5 years in an executive position, such as Director, Vice President, Chief Operating Officer or Executive Director.
- MBA or Masters in a relevant field.
- Proven track record of leading an organization or significant department in delivering growth, implementing a strategic plan, and managing a significant number of direct reports.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communications, negotiation, and influencing skills to engage staff, management, board of directors, and a wide range of clients, customers and strategic partners at different knowledge levels.
- Significant experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling and resource planning, and financial management.
- Engaging and proactive leader with a strong ability to gain respect, trust, and accountability from staff and diverse external stakeholders to achieve organizational goals.
- Excellent leadership, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- Results oriented and flexible; able to find a balance between the business requirements, the operational pressure of a growing organization, and Greener Partners' mission.
- Data-based decision-maker with a focus on learning, sharing knowledge with others, evaluating, and achieving objectives across functions.
- •Proven track record in developing, managing, and recruiting direct reports to improve their productivity and capabilities.
- Highly effective across functions in a dynamic, fast-paced, complex organization.
- Ability to absorb new information quickly and translate key points into positive outcomes.
- Outstanding proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks and Database software.
- Regular travel to Greener Partners sites, events and strategic partners.
- Familiarity of non-profit operating and financial requirements is a plus.
- Entrepreneurial with a focus on business development, product and process improvement in support of the organizational mission.
Compensation: Greener Partners is located in Malvern, Pennsylvania, within half an hour from Philadelphia, and offers a strong compensation and benefits package.
