MODA (Museum of Design Atlanta) is the only museum in the southeast devoted exclusively to the study and celebration of all things design.  MODA's ground breaking initiative, Atlanta in 3-D, will combine its first traveling exhibit with an advanced interactive experience onsite and online celebrating Atlanta’s sustainability efforts while bringing a new understanding to the general public on what it means to be green. 

Creating Atlanta’s first comprehensive Green Map is seen as an integral part of this exhibit to become an important living document that showcase's the green buildings, locations, organizations and businesses of Atlanta.

Responsibilities:

Creation of Green Map for Atlanta to be featured on Greenmap.org (an international network of more than 400 maps). Interns/volunteers will begin the process of mapping using the “Open Green Map” and associated tools on the Greenmap website, including technical and promotional assistance, a support network, and best practices recommendations. 

Interns/volunteers will catalog the various resources in Atlanta (parks, community gardens, public transit, LEED certified projects, EarthCraft projects, recycling centers, etc.) and begin locating them on the Atlanta map –this will require online research and telephone work.  Interns/volunteers will report to MODA’s designated mapmaker, but much of work will be on their own giving them significant input and ownership of the map (all interns/volunteers that complete their designated period satisfactorily will be listed on it as one of its creators).

Qualifications:

A good head for identifying green information and organization of details, a strong desire to learn, good communication skills, an ability to meet deadlines, an interest in making the world a better place and a sense of humor. Needs strong oral and written communication skills.

Compensation: Unpaid

Hours: 15-30 per week
Days: Flexible      
Commitment: Spring 2009 (Jan. to May) and Summer 2009(June to August)
