The AEWC Advanced Structures and Composites Center at the University of Maine, a leader in composite, boat building and offshore wind technology seeks an innovative and experienced executive with entrepreneurial and innovative ideas to fill the position of Business Development Executive for Offshore Wind Energy R&D. The Center, an 87,000 ft² laboratory with a world leading team of over 120 faculty, staff and students, conducts research with a variety of public and private entities developing the next generation of low-cost high-performance composite materials.
Position Overview:
The successful candidate will create partnerships that promote investment in innovation, which will extend the impact of the University of Maine's research in deep water offshore wind technology. This position will generate new R&D projects and create opportunities leading to the commercialization of the University's intellectual property by managing the business operations required to develop innovations into marketable products and services.
Qualifications:
Experience serving in offshore energy or wind energy industries as a business or technical lead with experience in the product development process and/or manufacturing and an established and growing network with key contacts in related wind energy industries are required.
In addition, a MBA or equivalent education and experience in R&D marketing, business development, investment, marketing or law is required. An engineering or physics degree is preferred or demonstrated technical knowledge and aptitude.
Demonstrated project management abilities are required. Expertise in aerodynamics and wind power engineering is preferred. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication and networking skills, ability to interact effectively in both academic and corporate environments and an ability to think creatively and translate ideas into action are also required.
