Description

~ TerraPass provides better, smarter renewable energy solutions for companies. ~

From new custom-developed projects with positive IRRs to low-risk renewable energy purchases from qualified local projects, we help power business with the best and smartest renewable energy available.

Position Overview

TerraPass seeks to expand our capacity to develop new greenhouse gas reduction and renewable energy projects in support of our customers' climate and business objectives. We're looking for a highly-motivated, mission-driven individual with up to 3 years' experience to join our team.

We're seeking someone with excellent analytical, business, and writing skills. That's right, we need a jack-of-all trades who is both willing and able to dive deep into technical/scientific tasks, economic analyses, and creative problem-solving, all the while applying astute business acumen and communicating clearly, as the project requires. On any given day, you might be asked to write the first draft of a customer proposal, produce a 20-year payback analysis of an energy project, research the emissions profile of a new facility type, and even troubleshoot a page on our website. All to be completed on that same day.

Responsibilities

Here are some examples of work we may assign you:

  • Work with project owners to gather necessary data to document a carbon project's potential emissions reductions; you need to be comfortable with phone time and focused on details.
  • Conduct technical analyses for new projects. We analyze both the environmental and the economic sides of developing renewable energy and greenhouse gas reduction projects. You not only need to be really good with spreadsheets, you need to understand the underlying data because you'll be creating some of these analyses from scratch.
  • Research and articulate (verbal/paragraphs/powerpoint) the regulatory or other rules (carbon standards, utility commission rules, etc.) which may be helpful or challenging in implementing a project in a given geography.
  • Using information available in our own databases and publicly, source new project opportunities given a set of criteria, including indicators of priority or likelihood of success.
  • Write proposals summarizing our work and outlining how we can meet a potential customer's needs.
  • Build relationships with customers and other stakeholders which establish and maintain TerraPass' high standard for expertise and quality work.

Qualifications

  • We expect our successful candidate will have at least an undergraduate degree, and some work experience (which may include internships or summer positions but is in addition to class projects/school work).
  • Degrees in science, engineering, finance, or business are likely to be most applicable to our work.
  • If you do not love working with spreadsheets, you are not likely to be successful here; much of our work is analytical and it should be a joy for you, not a painful chore.

A few details:

  • We are a very small company, less than 10 people. We're located in San Francisco. You MUST already have the unrestricted right to work in the US before applying to us.
  • If you are looking for the "start-up that goes public" experience, this is not that place.
  • If we choose to interview you, we will *test* your skills live, so please be honest with yourself (and us) about your capabilities.
