~ Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. (West) provides environmental and statistical consulting services and contracts research nationally and internationally to industry, government, and private organizations. ~

Position Overview 

West has openings for a Biological Field Technician for one project beginning in late October/early November 2016 and and continuing through October 2017. Primary duties will include conducting point-count surveys for eagles and other raptors and other field survey duties as needed.

Work is typically 24-30 hours per month; however, additional work may be added that will increase the number of hours per month. The positions will continue through October 2017 with potential additional work at other regional projects.  

Responsibilities 

  • Work requires the ability to identify bird species present in the northeastern U.S. in general and Pennsylvania species specifically.
  • Work will be conducted year-round in heat, cold, wind, etc. Must be able to work independently and interact positively with project managers, clients, landowners, and other technicians. 
  • The work can be tedious but this could be a good opportunity for someone looking to get their foot in the door with an environmental consulting firm that has an excellent reputation (WEST has been at the forefront of renewable energy/wildlife interaction studies and publications for years).
  • Depending upon skills of the applicant, position may include additional opportunities.
  • Must have excellent observation skills and work ethic. Occasional use of personal vehicle may be necessary. 

Qualifications  

  • Applicants should have sufficient and demonstrable experience conducting bird surveys and working in the Pennsylvania and/or the northeastern U.S.A.
  • B.S. degree in biology and formal Ornithology class preferred 
  • Candidates with prior experience conducting fixed-point avian surveys will be given preference 

Those applying MUST possess the following: 

  • Demonstrable birding skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility in work location and schedule
  • Overall dedication to excellence and sense of pride in work
  • valid Driver's License

Additionally: 

  • Valid driver's license is required upon submission of resume. Investigation into driving record will be conducted upon hire. Driving record must meet standards set to operate motor vehicle on behalf of WEST
  • Background check will be conducted on final candidates. Employment offers will require pre-employment drug testing and candidates must be able to pass drug screening criteria

Compensation: Wages $16.00/hr. No housing is provided. Mileage reimbursement will be provided if personal vehicle is used, otherwise vehicle provided.
