Description
The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a national nonprofit environmental organization, has an immediate opening for an attorney to work with NRDC's Marine Mammal Protection Project in our Los Angeles office.
The Los Angeles office focuses on issues of Clean Water Act enforcement, air quality, equity in urban planning, environmental justice, endangered species, and marine mammal protection. Our staff includes attorneys, scientists and other environmental specialists.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an attorney to begin as soon as possible. The attorney will work as part of a team focusing on marine mammal protection.
This position involves litigating new and existing cases; advocating before administrative agencies; working within international law bodies; working with grassroots organizations and other non-profits; coordinating with scientists and policy analysts; communicating with the media; and lobbying. It has a strong litigation component.
Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of litigation experience (though applicants with less experience may also be considered);
- superior academic background;
- excellent written and oral communications skills.
- A demonstrated interest in environmental protection or a background in marine science is a plus.
- The successful applicant will also possess outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to manage and prioritize a heavy workload while working as a member of a team.
