Summary Description:
The World Resources Institute (WRI) is seeking a dynamic associate for its New Ventures project and related sustainable enterprise activities in Latin America and Asia. New Ventures is a business accelerator that works toward long-term, sustainable natural resource use by employing a market-driven solution that focuses on supporting environmentally and socially responsible enterprises in emerging economies. We identify profitable small and medium-size companies that generate unique social and environmental benefits and provide them with business advisory services and access to finance.
In collaboration with local partners, New Ventures operates centers of sustainable entrepreneurship in Brazil, Mexico, and China, with centers opening soon in Indonesia and India. New Ventures is designed to meet the needs of sustainable entrepreneurs, to encourage the creation of new sustainable enterprises, to engage business development organizations and create a network of investors and financial institutions.
New Ventures' measures its success through capital transferred into environmental sectors, human resources and management teams strengthened in Latin America and Asia, and sustainability fostered-through creation of business.
Major Responsibilities:
The Associate will implement, manage and help design New Ventures activities in Asia, coordinating with the New Ventures team and in collaboration with enterprise development activities at WRI.
Qualifications:
We seek a dynamic candidate with a minimum of 3-5 years of work experience, preferably working with SMEs, entrepreneurship, development or investment in Asia. Commitment to environmentally-sound business is essential; project management experience and ability to raise funds a plus.
Additional qualifications include: advanced degree in business administration, finance, economics or related fields; experience working on business development; entrepreneurial, flexible team player; interest in / knowledge of sustainability; leadership skills; works well with little supervision; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; willingness to travel
