Description

Berkshire Natural Resources Council, a regional land trust with a successful 35-year track record in Western Massachusetts, seeks to fill the position of Associate Director. This is an ideal position for an independent person seeking to enlarge upon previous experience in a broad range of land trust and environmental programming.

If you are a quick learner with the ability to produce high-quality work in a variety of disciplines practiced by conservation organizations, this may be the job for you. You will represent the organization to landowners and the public. You will be involved in negotiations and policy decisions. You will help guide and implement administrative programs. If you have good ideas for new approaches and initiatives, you will get the support you need to run with them.

The Associate Director will report to the organization's chief executive and will work in close collaboration with other members of the staff on all facets of land trust work. The Council's staff is small, and much of our work load is relatively non-compartmentalized. Candidates for Associate Director do not need to be specialists in all areas of programming, but must be broadly conversant in conservation issues, with the ability to communicate well across disciplines with laypeople, supporters and professionals alike.

The Associate Director's most significant responsibility will be for the Council's land protection program, including landowner contacts and collaboration with other public and private land trust partners at both the local and statewide levels. Experience with with conservation options, tax advantages, project management, project-based fundraising and town politics -- in short, most of the skills used by a Land Protection Specialist -- will be helpful.
