Position Overview:
Responsible for leading the project development process with a focus on energy analysis, solar system design and PV production analysis for solar energy projects. Work with prospective project clients to understand their current energy use, the potential for developing on-site solar power projects and modeling the production, net metering and residual utility costs.
Collaborate with other team members to define the optimal solar electric system to maximize the client's utility savings and project investor returns and profitability. Coordinate resources required to complete project assessment and secure client engagement. Responsible for presenting the PsomasFMG value proposition to potential clients and industry constituents and working closely with project stakeholders to achieve optimal project results. Reports to the VP of Energy Solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate project feasibility and develop preliminary designs to support sales efforts and project bids.
- Develop electrical/structural conceptual designs for large-scale, solar electric systems.
- Coordinate and validate required technical designs and documents (electrical, structural, site plan drawings and related documents).
- Identify, evaluate, and direct the technical activities of project specific sub-contractors and consultants.
- Provide technical input and establish procedures in development of site permitting and interconnection requirements.
- Prepare reports and communications on design/project initiatives.
- Identify, prioritize, schedule project/design activities.
- Coordinate bill of materials development and supplier recommendations.
- Travel extensively throughout Southern California to visit client sites and perform site solar surveys consisting of several "site walkdowns" during the course of a day.
Qualifications:
Requirements:
- 5 + years experience in a technical field and preferably 2 years experience in the renewable energy industry, preferably solar.
- Prior experience with utilities, solar system installation and permitting/interconnection procedures is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical skills and high proficiency creating and manipulating Excel spreadsheets and models.
- Familiarity with solar energy and AC power components and systems with ability to understand DC and AC schematics.
- Prior working relationships with electrical power engineers defining and analyzing solar project and interconnection requirements.
- Ability to perform NPV and discounted cash flow financial analysis to value project options.
- Extensive understanding of California & Universal Building (UBC), electrical (NEC) fire Codes, and UL. Excellent presentation and written communication skills and proficiency in creating and delivering PowerPoint presentations to external and internal audiences.
- Ability to manage several projects with competing deadlines simultaneously.
- Possess a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with energy modeling software such as PVWatts, PVsyst, etc.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office programs; Solidworks and GIS is a plus. Multi-lingual to facilitate communication with product suppliers and technical resources is a plus.
- Must have a clean driving record and have a valid motor vehicle license.
Educational Requirements:
Technical undergraduate degree preferably in electrical or mechanical engineering or other math or science discipline. Master degree in business, energy or environmental sciences preferred. Certifications or training in LEED environment design, energy auditing or simulation, or PV system design or installation is a plus.
