Appalachian State University is a member institution of the sixteen-campus University of North Carolina. Position Overview:

The Program in Sustainable Development at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track, nine-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2012.

Evidence of effective teaching experience, advising experience and an active program of scholarship is required. The successful candidate will teach courses related to environmental humanities, environmental justice, literature and the environment, and fundamentals of sustainable development.

The teaching load is 3 courses per semester for faculty with an active research agenda. Faculty must be able to maintain a productive level of scholarship and participate regularly in curriculum development, student advisement, and service activities.

Qualifications: 

A Ph.D. in an area related to the intersection of sustainable development and the environmental humanities is required. The preferred candidate will have an expertise in labor studies and environmental justice as related to sustainable development. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of interdisciplinary teaching experience.
