Position Overview
The Department of Biology at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Applied Freshwater Ecology - Lake Management beginning Fall 2015. The initial appointment will be for two years.
Expectations include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, research, student advisement, college service, and continuing professional development. The Biology Department offers four majors tracks, including a field biology concentration, two graduate programs and excellent facilities.
The College's Biological Field Station (BFS) includes state of the art facilities for basic and applied research on Lake Otsego in nearby Cooperstown, NY.
An internship program and a Master of Science in Lake Management program utilize BFS resources including permanent and temporary wetlands, uplands, forests and streams on 2,600 acres and access to Lake Otsego. Access to additional New York State lakes is provided by over 15 powerboats, trailers and vehicles.

Responsibilities
Duties include but not limited to:
- Teaching graduate and advanced undergraduate courses in lake management and aquatic ecology;
- Teaching core courses in the Biology major; and
- Advisement of graduate students.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- PhD with post-doctoral experience in lake management and applied freshwater ecology or related disciplines; and
- Teaching experience at the college level.
Preferred:
Experience in each of the following:
- Data collection techniques, small boat handling, and trailer operation, development of lake management plans, use of social, economic and limnological data to provide decision making tools;
- Ability to teach ichthyology;
- Experience with diverse human populations and /or inclusive pedagogies leading to lake and watershed management planning techniques;
- Experience in aquatic invasive species control, limnology, hydrology and other areas complementing the expertise of existing staff;
- Teaching or mentoring experience at the graduate level; and
- Experience working with diverse populations and/or teaching pedagogies and/or multicultural teaching experience.
