Position Overview:
Candidate will provide electrical, high-voltage (HV), and substation support to operating wind farms across the Company. Candidate will assist, perform, and/or oversee maintenance and repair of HV assets.
Responsibilities:
- Provides electrical, high-voltage, and substation support to operating wind farms, including 24/7 on-call support
- Provides support for testing, repairs, and switching activities as requested
- Supports commissioning, start-up, and initial operating activities
- Supports HV spare parts inventory and warehouse
- Performs HV switching of step-up transformers, feeder breakers, gang-operated switches, and other related components
- Performs IR inspections, and battery maintenance
- Supports substation maintenance and outage planning
- Performs substation, collection, and transmission inspections in accordance with NERC compliance requirements
- Works closely with site Operations Managers to ensure day-to-day reliability
- Performs emergency and routine repairs on HV equipment, including transmission lines, HV cable terminations, and splices
- Assists with troubleshooting, component testing, and proof checking
- Ensures all HV OSHA safety requirements are being adhered to
- Provides detailed written reports, including root cause analyses
- Additional duties as required
- Ability to interact with utilities and entities concerning project grid.
Qualifications:
Preferred Skills:
- Strong knowledge of medium- and high-voltage substation electrical equipment, collection systems, transmission design, and operations
- Problem-solving ability
- Ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to multi-task in a complex, dynamic environment
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver's license
- Ability to work with other crews performing high voltage maintenance and repair
- Familiarity with the operation of capacitor banks, transformer load tap changers, and motor operated air breaks
- Familiarity with the following equipment is preferred: multi-meter, megger, amp clamp, power factor test sets, AC/DC hi-pots, low res ohm meters, transformer turns ratio test units, line locator, thumper, and infrared camera.
Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with electronic communication systems (SCADA)
- Familiarity with Switching Orders and Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures
- Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, and drawings, including one-line, three-line, and wiring diagrams
- Infrared Thermographer
- Terminating and splicing of medium and high voltage cables
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma
Required Work Experience:
- 1-3 years of relevant technical experience; experience with power generation or distribution preferred
Physical Demands:
- Ability to occasionally perform physical requirements including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and climbing at project locations in order to inspect and repair equipment or collect information
- Ability to work in confined spaces or at great heights for prolonged periods
- Willingness and ability to travel at least 30%
