Midwest Environmental Advocates is a non-profit environmental law center that provides legal services to community groups that are working to protect our air and water. Working in a green-designed office in Madison, Wisconsin, we are a small, dynamic office of two attorneys, a legal assistant, up to two law student clerks, and 38 volunteer attorneys and experts.

We work on a diverse caseload, from protecting our waters and air to ensuring the government protects the public interest. Using a blend of community organizing, education and legal and technical assistance, MEA and its clients successfully protect the environment.

We seek an Assistant Director to manage and implement MEA's development, fundraising and internal operations. The Assistant Director will have the unique opportunity to help take an effective small operation and scale-up its reach and impact through implementing sound management and growth strategies.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
" Creating fundraising campaigns, developing and cultivating major donors, and writing grant applications;

" Working with Executive Director to develop the budget, managing and improving organization's financial status, supervising accountant and annual audit;

" Recruiting and cultivating board members;

" Developing organization's image and public outreach, including website content, newsletters, and assessment of media impact; and

" Overseeing smooth functioning of organization's office environment, including maintenance, computer equipment and human resources' needs.

Applicant Requirements:
" At least two years non-profit management experience;
" Demonstrated ability to raise money through grant writing and major donor development;
" Experience with non-profit budgeting and accounting;
" Experience with non-profit board of director development;
" Solid writing, editing and research skills;
" Strong communication skills;
" Proficiency with computers, the internet, database programs, and MS Office;
" Understanding of environmental advocacy and public interest litigation; and
" Demonstrated commitment to protecting the environment.
