Position Overview

Stantec’s Water sector and Environmental Services team have a need for a full-time Aquatic Ecologist/Diver to coordinate and manage our field services program.

Your Opportunity:

  • Our team members have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects that may include endangered species assessments, habitat restoration, water resources management, infrastructure assessment, scientific diving, and commercial diving.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct freshwater mussel surveys
  • Conduct fisheries surveys
  • Lead the Stantec Scientific dive team
  • Act as a member of the Stantec commercial dive team
  • Oversee scuba diving operations onsite
  • Assist with maintenance and repairs of diving equipment
  • Assist with maintenance and repairs of boats, trucks, and other field equipment
  • Prepare and enforce dive plans, job hazard analysis, and emergency management plans for projects
  • Sediment sampling
  • Bathymetric surveys
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary environmental assessments
  • Proposal and report writing

Qualifications

  • ADCI Air Diver
  • Certification with a minimum of 2 years’ experience and/or AAUS scientific diver certification
  • Current Physical, First Aid, Oxygen, CPR certification
  • Ability to inspect, maintain and repair boats, trucks and other field equipment.
  • Ability to record and track dive and maintenance logs
  • Advanced boat operation skills preferred
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to travel
  • Prior mussel survey experience preferred
  • DOT Driver certification preferred

  • Position will primarily work in on job sites. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather
