Position Overview
New West Technologies has an opening for a Wind Resource Characterization Analyst in its Washington D.C. Offices. The analyst will support the management of research projects related to improving wind forecasting and resource characterization for wind industry applications.
The candidate may also provide support in assessing portfolio gaps, planning out-year research priorities, and assessing budget needs for future research activities. This work requires developing an in-depth understanding of meteorology and wind resources available for wind power development.
The candidate for this position must also be able to manage a group of resource characterization R&D projects' objectives, schedule, and budget, assessing deliverables and progress, providing critical feedback to project and client managers, and supporting identification of research gaps and priorities.
Additionally, this position may require the development of presentations, participation in strategic planning efforts, and participation or travel to meetings, workshops, conferences and events. Experience in the resource forecasting desired, as well as experience with working in a federal contracting environment with federal government clients.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Maintain a current and in-depth understanding of wind power resource characterization assessment methodologies and techniques.
- Using this knowledge, support annual and long-term R&D planning activities and providing recommendations to clients regarding priority research areas.
- Support the development and execution of Funding Opportunity Announcements/ Requests for Proposals to fund identified research priorities.
- Support selection and evaluation of R&D Projects related to Funding Opportunity Announcements.
- Support day-to-day project management activities of awarded projects (understanding the scope, schedule, and budget of all projects, participating in regular update calls with the projects, ensuring projects stay on task and meet research goals).
- Preparing documentation and presentations relating to research projects.
- As requested, researching and preparing reports, presentations, or white papers related to high priority issues, technological advancements, or other topics that affect wind plant operations as a factor of wind resource.
- Attending industry meetings and conferences relating to ongoing research to maintain an up-to-date understanding of the status of research, and to assess industry needs and research priorities.
- Other duties and responsibilities may include: data analysis and supporting development of presentation or communications materials for clients.
Qualifications
Required Skills And Abilities:
- Must have a background/experience with atmospheric sciences and wind.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, along an awareness of and the ability to deal diplomatically with topics of political sensitivity.
- Where directed, a qualified candidate must be able to take initiative and work independently to plan meetings, review and comment on project materials, compile and give project briefings to client staff, and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
Additional Skills and Abilities Desired:
- Experience with wind power forecasting and forecasting tools;
- Experience with regulatory and licensing processes for renewable energy projects is desired; and
- Experience working with or assisting in coordination of long-term projects with multiple partners.
Computer Equipment And Software Requirements:
- In Depth knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and SharePoint required.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and other various software.
Education And Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience OR a Master's degree in Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, or related field.
- 2-5 years' experience.
