Description

For over 60 years, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) has been addressing challenges and opportunities associated with growth and development in central Ohio as well as working with our members to improve the quality of life within the region. Organizations such as MORPC are created to work for the overall improvement of the region, discuss regional issues and develop collaborative partnerships to address regional issues.

Position Overview:

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) is seeking an Air Quality Program Coordinator for the Center for Energy & Environment. This position is a mid-level position, which requires practical knowledge of environmental issues and the ability to educate key constituencies and influence behaviors through creative use of communication tools.

This individual will perform a variety of activities, including initiating and developing promotional, educational, public policy and community-involvement initiatives. This individual will supervise one part-time team member and serve as project manager of air quality contracts.

This individual must be able to work independently, however the position is strongly oriented toward team collaboration with other Center staff and agency staff. Primary duties of this position includes coordinating Energy & Air Quality Work Group meetings; working with media as a MORPC spokesperson during Air Quality Alerts and other outdoor air quality issues; assisting county, municipal and township officials in implementation of air quality and energy goals; and working closely with MORPC's RideSolutions Program and others to coordinate marketing efforts and promote behavior changes to reduce air pollution.

This individual must be able to develop educational and promotional materials; write white papers or make comments on rules, legislation or proposals and oversee the diesel emissions reduction program. This position requires strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to organize and implement creative campaigns to influence people to use less energy, explore alternatives to driving alone, and take reasonable precautions when air quality alerts are issued.

Responsibilities:

As a staff member responsible for operating programs in a specific subject area, the employee will have responsibility for raising a substantial portion of the funding needed to support those programs. Experience in identifying and researching donor prospects, cultivating such prospects, writing grant applications and managing grants, or the aptitude and inclination to develop such skills, will be important.

Program staff is also responsible for identifying measurable objectives for their programs and tracking performance so as to provide data that quantifies outcomes. Experience operating in a system where measurable objectives are emphasized will be valuable.

Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, environmental science, political science or a related field; and a minimum of 2 years experience in public affairs or communications; or any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.
