Description

Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center seeks a Field Manager for our 5-acres of organic vegetables that serve as a center of the Adamah farm business, educational programs and community life.

Located in Falls Village, Connecticut, Isabella Freedman's mission is to build spiritually vibrant, socially progressive Jewish community. We do this by providing experiences that inspire a love of Judaism, strengthen the bonds of community and cultivate leadership. All of our programs model an approach to Jewish tradition that gives participants tools for spiritual fulfillment, deep learning and social engagement.

Adamah is a program of Isabella Freedman that connects people to their roots - to the land, to community, to Judaism and to themselves - by providing educational programs and products in order to build a more sustainable world.

Responsibilities:

  • Work alone and with apprentice and fellows to manage day-to-day operations of the Adamah Farm, which includes the Sadeh (4 acres) and portions of Kaplan Family Farm (1 ½ acres)
  • Manage up to 14 Adamah fellows and 1 apprentice in agricultural work. Have a clear daily sense of priorities, work flow and best use of labor
  • Deliver up to 60 high-quality & ample weekly shares for 22 week season
  • Up to twice a month load and drive box truck with CSA shares 2 hours each way.
  • Manage communication with CSA members and core group
  • Train and supervise Sadeh Apprentice
  • Maintain inventory of Adamah tools and seeds
  • Help with maintenance & fuelling of farm machinery (tractor, rototiller, weed wacker, farm truck, delivery truck)
  • Coordinate with Executive Chef at Isabella Freedman to deliver produce weekly to the IF kitchen
  • Attend community meetings with Adamah fellows when requested by the Program Director
  • Work with others to cultivate an Adamah community filled with learning, meaning and joy.
  • Assist with field trips, one-on-one check-ins, etc.
  • When needed assist with the Gan (educational gardens)
  • Lead one Avodat Lev (morning prayers and meditation) no more than once a week
  • Teach classes no more than once every two weeks.
  • Attend weekly Adamah faculty meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Management experience on organic farm: from seeding to post-harvest handling
  • CSA experience
  • Clear communicator, supervisor and teacher
  • Rudimentary tractor skills
  • Experience with Jewish education and intentional community a plus
