Position Overview 

The Greenpeace USA Action Team develops and coordinates non-violent direct actions in support of Greenpeace campaigns. Action staffers work with campaigners to identify strategic moments and creative ideas for actions and other forms of direct communication.

The Action Team also cares for all the direct action equipment and runs a highly specialized technical training program to provide the skills Greenpeace activists need to go out and peacefully protest in dynamic ways.


The Actions Intern will provide administrative support to the Action Team in all areas of its activities, and will work in both the office in DC and at the Greenpeace equipment center in Landover, Maryland. This posiitn is for the fall semester, 2014. 

Responsibilities 

  • Research;
  • Coordination of meetings and conference calls;
  • General administrative support;
  • Communications with activists and volunteers;
  • Travel arrangements;
  • Assistance with various projects including photo opportunities and direct communications as they arise;
  • Equipment prep and maintenance; and
  • Other duties as apparent or assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • Applicants must be over 18, but do not have to be current students.
  • Ability to work independently, ability to prioritize multiple tasks, excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong research skills, computer skills, positive attitude and ability to work with confidential information.
  • Must have a willingness to learn about and work with equipment and tools, good analytical thinking skills, commitment to protecting the environment, belief in non-violent direct action as a means of affecting change. 

Program Details 

  • Our fall internships start September 8th and end December 5th.
  • Part time and full time positions available.
  • Each intern is trained and closely supervised by a member of the department to which they've been assigned.
  • We are flexible with your schedule and can help you receive class credit.
  • All internships are unpaid. Unfortunately Greenpeace cannot provide travel or housing.
