Community Services Coordinator

~ Midwest Environmental Advocates (MEA) is a non-profit, public interest environmental law center that works for clean water, air, land and government for this generation and the next. ~

MEA furthers environmental justice by providing legal and technical services to grassroots community groups and through collaboration with organizational partners.  MEA serves and supports communities with environmental problems while building capacity at the local level for self-advocacy.

Position Overview

The Community Services Coordinator (CSC) will provide support to our team of four attorneys and work directly with citizens and impacted communities. This is a new position within the organization. We are looking for someone with a strong entrepreneurial spirit to help develop the full potential of this position. 

Responsibilities

• Legal research and litigation support
• Management of the intakes helpline
• Coordination of legal education program
• Website updates
• Developing citizen environmental toolkits
• Communications and meetings with community partners
• Occasional in-state travel required

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Paralegal studies or demonstrated experience
• Strong legal research, writing, citation, and editing skills
• Superior written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working with community groups and clients
• Ability to communicate legal and technical information to non-lawyers
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Effective team player with ability to lead
• Attention to detail
• Strong analytical skills
• Experience with Microsoft Office programs, Adobe, electronic databases, and electronic filing systems

Compensation: Compensation will be dependent on experience and qualifications. In addition, Midwest Environmental Advocates offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental, long-term disability, and a retirement savings plan.
