Position Overview

Due to continued growth in our industrial services and EH&S service lines, Bay West is seeking an experienced, resourceful Environmental Compliance Manager. Bay West's Environmental Compliance practice area focuses on supporting commercial clients across a wide variety of market sectors to review, develop, audit, modify and maintain compliance programs that meet federal and state requirements for the management of stormwater, wastewater, air discharges, and regulated materials and wastes.

Responsibilities

Duties for this key position will include senior-level technical support and direction, project management, client management, business development and team leader duties. The position will also have responsibility for:

  • Managing, directing and/or performing work on environmental compliance projects for clients with multiple environmental compliance concerns including:
    • Solid and Hazardous Waste Management
    • Environmental Reporting (i.e., Hazardous Waste Notifications, Biennial Reports, EPCRA Tier II Reports, SARA Toxic Release Inventory Form R Reports, Hazardous Waste Determinations, Special Waste Disposal Authorizations, Air Emission Inventory Reports, Notice of Intents, Area MACT and NESHAP category compliance, etc.)
    • Environmental Auditing and Inspecting
    • Water and Wastewater Compliance and Permits
    • ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems)
    • Stormwater (including development of SPCC plans and SWPPP Plans)
    • Air Quality Compliance and Permits
  • Preparing environmental compliance proposals and reports, and/or working with cross-disciplinary teams on more complex proposals and reports
  • Managing staff, schedule, budget and maintaining direct client communications
  • Reviewing documentation associated with environmental permitting and regulatory compliance
  • Auditing client sites to help evaluate environmental regulatory compliance
  • Preparing and overseeing preparation of reports and calculations
  • Providing team leadership through delegation of tasks
  • Working with the VP of Commercial Programs to develop and implement sustainable growth plans/strategies

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of environmental regulations and environmental compliance as they apply to general commercial and industrial/manufacturing clients
  • Experience in assessing project sites to evaluate environmental permitting and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to direct, coordinate and manage a project team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated fiscal management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and track team and personal commitments to meet deadlines
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail
  • Strong chemistry and analytical knowledge
  • Strong computer skills, particularly utilizing Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering, geology, industrial hygiene, or environmental science preferred; minimum 5 years of environmental regulatory compliance experience
  • CIH, CHMM or other professional certification desired, but not required
  • Proven track record of successfully managing multi-media environmental compliance projects for commercial clients
  • Previous experience working with multi-site client facilities across multiple geographic regions
  • Experience with and practical knowledge of Environmental Management Systems
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training with annual refreshers required
