Urban Indoor Farmer

Our proprietary systems enable local farmers to operate a profitable farm anywhere in the country regardless of climate conditions. Located in South Philly, our R & D facility builds farm systems in one room, and grows fresh produce in the other.

The patent-pending vertical indoor farming equipment we developed can grow an acre’s worth of produce (43,560 sq. feet) in only 36 sq feet, using 98% less water and 82% less energy than traditional farms and we grow without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or GMOs. We are poised for rapid expansion and are growing as fast as our produce! That is why we’re looking for ambitious, good natured, and hard-working individuals to join our team.

Position Overview

Metropolis Farms is looking for an Urban Indoor Farmer to join our growing team.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is going to be a good fit for the culture we are developing at Metropolis Farms. We have a strict ‘no asshole’ policy.

In this role, you will be farming indoors and will be involved throughout the entire growing process. From seeding through harvest to equipment maintenance and cleaning; you will be an integral part of our farm operation. As the Metropolis Farms business grows, your responsibilities will grow as well.

It may be indoors, but this is still a farming position. This position requires hard work and comes with a guarantee that you will get dirty. This is a full-time position, working Wednesday – Sunday.

Responsibilities

• Grow food! You will work with our modular farming systems and will be involved in every step of the growing process.
• Harvesting & packaging food.
• Daily maintenance and cleaning of the farm and its equipment.
• Measuring and balancing the EC (electrical current) and pH levels to ensure plants are growing optimally.
• General troubleshooting / plant maintenance duties.
• Measuring and controlling temperature.
• Other farming duties as required.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Most importantly: you are kind, hard working, and play well with others
• This is a team environment and we’re looking for someone who will be happy, productive, and fun to work with.
• No prior farming experience necessary, but you must be excited to learn.
• We will train you to successfully perform all the responsibilities listed above.
• But that means you need an open mind, can learn quickly, and are willing learn our processes.
• A strong work ethic.
• This position is physically demanding and requires hard work.
• Able to lift 50 lbs and move up & down a ladder regularly.
• Basic math skills.
• This position involves some numbers work.
• You must be dependable.
• Must be over 18.
