Position Overview

Huron Pines is recruiting a dynamic individual to fill our AmeriCorps Coordinator position. This is a full-time, salaried position responsible for the overall management of the Huron Pines AmeriCorps program. The ideal candidate will be well versed in conservation issues and will exhibit excellent communication and problem solving skills. The AmeriCorps Coordinator will work closely with Huron Pines staff, AmeriCorps members and partner organizations to ensure a sustainable and meaningful program.

Responsibilities

AmeriCorps Management (80%):

  • Lead recruitment and placement of 30 host sites and 30 AmeriCorps members.
  • Work directly with program partners to develop and ensure meaningful service opportunities for AmeriCorps members while meeting program deliverables.
  • Develop dynamic training and engagement opportunities for members.
  • Manage host site and partner interactions and communications.
  • Responsible for all reporting and financial management of the program, including review of two week schedules, timesheets, monthly member reports and reports to funders.
  • Implement the AmeriCorps grant; solicit and secure contributions for the
    program.
  • Work with host sites, AmeriCorps members and staff at the state and national level to ensure compliance with program requirements.
  • Integrate the program into the overall conservation efforts and goals of Huron Pines and serve as the site supervisor for members placed with Huron Pines.
  • Provide day-to-day and frontline management of the overall program, including addressing problems that may arise.
  • Lead member mid-term and end of service reviews.

School Engagement (10%):

  • Develop relationships with local school districts and community partners and
    connect students and teachers to necessary resources for place-based education programming.
  • Highlight the benefits of place-based education to students, schools and the
    community and participate in the Northeast Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative.
  • Work with teachers and administration to develop and implement place-based education lessons in their classroom.
  • Coordinate with community partners and schools to ensure successful
    partnerships.

Project Management (10%):

  • Participate in Project Management team meetings and regular meetings with the Associate Director to discuss project objectives, timelines and obstacles and develop new program ideas.
  • Provide accurate two-week work plans and timesheets and track project milestones.
  • Understand project budgets and operate within budgetary guidelines.
  • Engage with fundraising staff to raise necessary project funds through grant writing, business partnerships and other fundraising avenues.
  • Participate in regional and statewide conferences and training opportunities as related to this position.
  • Responsible for the promotion, growth and sustainability of the AmeriCorps and placed-based education programs.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work effectively with project management, partner organizations, schools and teachers in a team setting.
  • Proven ability to solve problems and handle personnel conflicts.
  • Good technical- and letter-writing skills.
  • Expertise in word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to pay special attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
  • Understand of budgets and grant requirements.
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of Huron Pines.

Additional Information

On occasion this position requires work to be conducted off-site particularly during the field season. Use of a personal vehicle and/or HP vehicle may be required to perform duties. Huron Pines is an at-will employer and this is an exempt, annual salaried position.
