Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Los Angeles-based Integrated Planning Team Leader to join the firm.  The LA IP Team Leader will work with us to establish a Planning practice in our West Los Angeles and Downtown Los Angeles Offices.  In doing so, the leader will grow an integrated team of planners, engineers and designers in service to public and private clients in the Southern California region.  This leader will also work in partnership with our team leaders in San Francisco, Toronto, and New York growing Arup’s planning presence across North America.  Where appropriate, we will also collaborate on projects of national and international significance.

Responsibilities

This is a Principal or Associate Principal position.  It requires a self-motivated person who is interested in starting up a new practice with the support of the local office and the regional Planning business.  Key activities in this role will include:

  • Create a strategy for the development of a Los Angeles-based team
  • Develop an Integrated Planning team providing transportation planning services, transportation engineering, multimodal corridor studies, travel demand management methods, pedestrian planning techniques, microsimulation models, urban design strategies, landscape architecture services, and urban planning services
  • Work on the implementation of the Americas Planning Business growth strategy
  • Work in partnership with other offices on transportation planning, urban planning, urban design and traffic engineering projects
  • Identify clients, develop networks, and position Arup for transportation planning, traffic engineering, urban design and urban planning projects.
  • Hire key staff to lead practice areas in Transportation, ITS and Smart Mobility, Urban Planning and Design and People, Places and Spaces
  • Lead major projects as a Project Director and provide oversight to Project Managers
  • Project manage consulting teams providing technical leadership and QA/QC
  • Serve as day-to-day liaison to the local market and to other Arup offices
  • Prepare reports and other presentation materials and present findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders
  • Develop business and find leads for team
  • Represent Arup in two major professional organizations in the industry

Qualifications

Candidate must have:

  • 15+ years of increasing responsibilities leading major projects
  • 10+ years of experience leading large and diverse teams of individuals
  • 10+ years of experience in business development and winning work
  • Experience serving as a technical expert on major project teams
  • Experienced in planning for pedestrian, cycle, vehicular and transit (rail and bus) systems within or for a transportation system operator.
  • Experiences working with technology companies or transportation service providers developing technology systems and services to optimize network performance and/or providing reliable information to the traveling public
  • Proven track record of delivering projects within scope, schedule and budget
  • Focus on analysis of traffic movement and the deployment of technology to manage demands
