~ We are a group of students, staff, and faculty that are exploring basic and applied aspects of biology and our chosen field, entomology.  ~

Our outstanding permanent and adjunct faculty, high quality facilities that include an insectary, greenhouses, apiary, well-equipped labs, and the 2.5 million specimen M. T. James Entomological Collection, make WSU an exceptional place to study and conduct research.

Our faculty are housed at the main campus in Pullman, one of our branch campuses in Tri-Cities, and at Research and Extension Centers throughout the state. The diversity of our faculty, both in terms of geographic distribution and discipline provide students exceptional classroom and research opportunities. Additionally, we have a group of exceptional affiliate and adjunct faculty, several of which are located at the USDA/ARS Yakima Agricultural Research Lab located in Wapato, Washington, with whom students may study.

  • The main areas of emphasis of the Department are biologically-based beneficial and pest arthropod management, human and environmental health as they relate to entomological issues, and teaching.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will support and mentor entomology graduate students and post-doctoral scientists, and teach a graduate course in Insect Physiology and other courses as designated by the department/university.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Ph.D. in Entomology or related discipline at the date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop a high-quality, extramurally funded research program addressing some aspect of insect physiology.
  • Applicants with a wide range of expertise will be considered, including sensory physiology, pheromone biology, insect nutrition/digestive physiology, ecological/ environmental physiology, insect pathology, or diapause/overwintering biology.
  • Collaboration is expected within and outside the department and institution, and applicants should demonstrate strong potential for collaboration with other existing programs (e.g., toxicology, metabolomics, insect-microbe and insect-plant interactions).
  • The successful candidate will be expected to publish research results in high quality, peer reviewed journals.
  • The candidate will also be expected to conduct research relevant to Washington’s diverse agricultural industries, and to interact directly with major and specialty commodity groups in Washington.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborative/team research projects.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in developing and delivering graduate level courses, and evidence of a commitment to excellence in graduate education.
