Position Overview

Ulteig is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Field Observer for wind, solar, and utility construction projects. The Senior Field Observer will be responsible for managing the observation, monitoring, and documentation of the work performed in the field by construction and contracting crews, as well as coordinating and may occasionally oversee daily work tasks for a diverse team of Field Observers.

The Senior Field Observer will report directly to an Ulteig resource manager, as well as to the Senior Project Manager of all assigned projects.The incumbent will be part of a team that inspects and documents utility, large-scale wind and solar energy, or other energy-related construction projects, in accordance with the owner’s requirements and contract documents and assists in on-site resolution of construction related issues as they are identified. This will require coordination with engineering, procurement and project management teams as needed. This position is field-based and requires 100% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project staff in their duties
  • Track and report project / construction progress and status
  • Work closely with owner, project management team, contractor management team, owner’s engineers and utilities
  • Perform and document job safety walk on a regular basis
  • Ensure adherence to client’s Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs
  • Report, track, and resolve non-conformance issues in coordination with QA/QC
  • Occasionally assist project staff in their duties
  • Track and report project / construction progress and status
  • Work closely with owner, project management team, contractor management team, owner’s engineers and utilities
  • Ensure adherence to Safety policies
  • Report, track, and resolve non-conformance issues in coordination with QA/QC
  • Review and adhere to environmental management plan
Qualifications
 
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management or a Minimum of 6 years of Comparable Field Experience
  • 10-20 years of related experience preferred
  • Experience working with utility and/or renewable energy projects, preferably utility scale projects
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and construction specifications/manuals
  • Ability to read and understand construction and procurement contracts
  • Ability to read and understand project schedules and Gantt charts
  • Knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with GIS database systems and applications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including conflict negotiation/resolution and stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with owners’ representatives, contractors, vendors and others on and off the job site
  • Ability to work approximately 80% in the field, nights, weekends, and more than 40 hours per week
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S
