Position Overview

Michael Baker International seeks a Senior Environmental Planner with 8+ years of experience managing projects for our client’s environmental permitting activities in Maryland, and throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge in permitting, and obtaining timely environmental determinations for environmental impact statements and assessments, planning and zoning studies as well as project and staff management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Managing environmental permitting responsibilities for a variety of environmental projects including from concept through construction
  • Managing and participating in the preparation of environmental studies and technical reports including environmental impact statements, environmental site assessments/investigations, planning and zoning studies, 4f, feasibility studies, wetland delineations and functional assessments, wildlife habitat evaluations and rare species surveys, storm water pollution prevention plans, public outreach, agency coordination, etc.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications for state and local agencies including agency consultation and follow-up
  • Establishing and tracking project milestones in the permit/approval processes
  • Knowledge of major federal statutes and implementing regulations including NEPA/SEQRA, NPDES/SPDES, NHPA, among others

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Natural Resources, Planning, Engineering or related discipline
  • 8+ years of experience
  • Environmental permitting experience required; Maryland preferred
  • Experience in the State of Maryland with MDE is preferred
  • Transportation (both surface and aviation) NEPA experience is preferred
  • To be successful, you’ll need to be bright, organized, and determined; you’ll also need to be able to build relationships with a wide variety of people. You will need the ability to multitask and prioritize competing project obligations
  • Excellent English language skills, written and verbal, are essential to long term success in this role
  • You’ll need to be able to quickly get up to speed on our policy, procedures and relevant software while acquiring an understanding of the company’s service offerings, and the client’s standards and procedures relevant to your projects
  • Naturally, you’ll need computer skills (Microsoft Office)
