Description
~ Are you interested in teaching children about the world around them? Fairview Lake YMCA is a year round residential outdoor education center that focuses on hands-on experiential learning for children in grades 2-8. ~
Fairview Lake is located in the Northwest corner of New Jersey surrounded by 660 acres of swamps, forests and fields. We reside on a mile long lake which gives us our name. We are only an hour and a half drive from New York City!
Position Overview
Fairview Lake Program Instructors will teach pre-approved academic curriculum, lead night hikes and campfires, facilitate our team building program, belay at our climbing walls, lead archery lessons and so much more. Outdoor education covers both our education and recreation lessons that occur daily. Besides instructing, everyone will lend a hand in upkeep of the grounds, cabins and equipment for each lesson.
Positions for fall will run mid-August until Thanksgiving. Limited internships may be available.
Qualifications
- A college degree in Environmental/Outdoor Education/Sciences/ Teaching is preferred.
- A love of children and the desire and abitlity to teach in the outdoors (rain or shine) is required.
- The qualities of being flexible, patient and self-motivated are used on a daily basis.
Compensation
- Base rate of $11/hr, housing and most meals as well as on-site training.
