Position Overview

Responsibilities

• Synthesis of small molecules, polymers, and inorganic solids using standard wet chemistry and air-free Schlenk line techniques.
• Characterize polymers using techniques such as NMR, size-exclusion chromatography, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
• Formulate polymer and polymer composite inks for membrane coatings.
• Screen membrane fabrication conditions unique to each new polymer chemistry.
• Characterize the ion selectivity and ion conductivity of membranes using diffusion and potentiometric electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
• Maintain a detailed lab notebook, participate in weekly team meetings discussing on-going progress, engage in monthly strategic and professional development meetings.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering.
• 2+ years’ experience in a laboratory, ingrained understanding of safe laboratory practices, and working knowledge of experimental design and the scientific method.
• Knowledge of polymer characterization, various membrane fabrication methods, and experience with ultrafiltration/nanofiltration.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct and perform collaborative research and effectively interact with a broad range of colleagues.
• Self-motivated, organized, and able to learn in a fast-paced team environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
