~ The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is a bi-county agency empowered by the State of Maryland in 1927 to acquire, develop, maintain and administer a regional system of parks within Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, and to provide land use planning for the physical development of Prince George's and Montgomery counties. In addition, the Commission gained responsibility for the public recreation program in Prince George's County in 1970. ~  

Position Overview

The Prince George's County Planning Department of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking a Planner Coordinator experienced in environmental planning to review development applications, prepare master plans, conduct studies, and recommend policy.

As Planner Coordinator, you will review proposed development for compliance with environmental laws and policies, make recommendations for land use master plans, conduct studies, coordinate with other government agencies, and manage consultant contracts. You will be working with a team of planners, technicians, and consultants. You will collaborate with county, state, federal, and utility officials; affected community members and neighborhood associations; business groups, land developers, and their consultant teams.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews development applications for compliance with county laws, master plans, and policies.
  • Oversees the selection and management of consultants for research studies.
  • Applies best national environmental planning practices and makes policy recommendations.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations on proposed legislation.
  • Receives input from and makes recommendations to elected and appointed officials and community groups.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in planning, architecture, parks, engineering, environmental science, or equivalent disciplines related to job function and 3 years of progressively responsible professional level planning experience at the journey level;
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to manage projects to meet work program objectives including the delivery of work products on schedule and within budget, and in accordance with progressive planning principles, best practices, and high quality standards.
  • Expert proficiency in environmental planning, wetland delineation, forest delineation, Forest Conservation Act, land use, and/or land development.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage or facilitate complex, multi-year projects involving multiple stakeholders and a wide array of disciplines, sensitive political issues and challenges, and diverse communities.
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written; ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including elected officials and agency officials at all levels of government, non-profit organizations, developers, and civic groups.

Compensation

The M-NCPPC offers a competitive salary range of $60,326 to $103,429 per annum at the Planner Coordinator level with an excellent benefits package. 

Additional Information

The Prince George's County Planning Department is currently located in historic Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Free onsite parking is available for employees. In the foreseeable future, the Department will be moving to a newly renovated, state-of-the-art building in Largo, Maryland, conveniently located near Metro and I-495.
