~ The Native Village of Eyak (NVE) Traditional Council is a tribal government that promotes self-determination to Native Village of Eyak tribal members. ~

Under the guidance of the Council, tribal offices provide health and social services, economic development, natural resource/environmental education, jobs, and job training to the Native Village of Eyak.

The Tribe operates in a way that is acceptable to Alaska Native cultural values and traditions in order to enhance the well being of our People both physically and spiritually. The Tribal Council seeks ways to enrich tribal living through community-operated tribal programs and self-determination opportunities.

Position Overview

  • The Native Village of is accepting applications for several Fisheries Technician II positions for the 2019 season.
  • The position is full-time, seasonal.
  • This position works at a remote field camp using fishwheels and mark-recapture techniques to estimate the in-river abundance of adult Chinook salmon.

Responsibilities

  • Six technicians will assist permanent staff using fishwheels and mark-recapture techniques to estimate the inriver abundance of adult Chinook salmon.
  • One week of preseason training will occur in Cordova, Alaska prior to mobilizing remote field camps where personnel will remain.
  • Work duties include fishwheel deployment and operation, TBAR-PIT tagging, ARIS Sonar operation, morphometric measurement, data entry, and camp maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Boating experience is required. Remote field work experience is highly preferable.
  • Wilderness medicine, firearm proficiency, carpentry, mechanical, and engineering experience is desirable. Hiring open until positions filled.
  • Applicants are required to have a Bachelor’s degree with a major in biology, fisheries, or relevant major or have relevant experience.Applicants should have two years’ experience working in the biological sciences.

Compensation

  • $14-$18/hr. DOE
