~ The City of Lino Lakes is located in the southeastern corner of Anoka County, the northernmost county in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. ~

Lino Lakes is comprised of 33.1 square miles and is approximately 16 miles north of the St. Paul Central Business District (CBD) and 20 miles from the Minneapolis CBD.

Lino Lakes’ residents place a high value on its lakes and open spaces. Lakes, wetlands and protected open space occupy approximately 45% of the city’s area and provide Lino Lakes with a character and ambiance unequaled within the region.

Position Overview

The City of Lino Lakes takes significant pride in its efforts to reduce waste and promote recycling. The City is seeking a motivated Recycling Intern to assist with a variety of community recycling programs and projects.

This is a part-time internship. Flexible hours M-F, one Saturday required a month for Recycling Saturdays, and occasional evenings as needed. 

Responsibilities

  • These initiatives are aimed at promoting reuse, waste reduction, recycling, and community outreach.
  • This position helps lead the City's initiatives by organizing fix-it clinics, maintaining the organic recycling program, and promoting waste abatement education.
  • This internship provides a great opportunity to be exposed to working with the public, planning and implementing recycling initiatives, collaborating with a disparate group of stakeholders, and learning waste management policy at the municipality level.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, availability to work up to 29 hours per week, a valid driver's license, and good driving record.
  • Applicants should also possess, or be in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science related to Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Studies, or a related field.

  • Upbeat, friendly personality, who has the ability to get people excited about recycling.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, passionate about waste abatement, and enjoys motivating others to make a change.

Compensation

  • Hourly rate of $12.00; no benefits.
