Position Overview

We are searching for an entry level, highly motivated and self-driven person looking for entry-level position working in support of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). If you are looking to get your professional career going, build experience in supporting Civialian Government, and further gain experience in your field of Information Management, this is your place.

In the first month on at our Federal client site in heart of Washington DC, you will demonstrate fast, high-quality value in supporting a 4 person contract team and multiple FOIA divisions to reduce a sizable complex FOIA backlog of activities. You would quickly demonstrate you are hungry to make an impact and show you can understand how the organization operations, how they task, how they expect deliverables.

You would be supporting a team of Senior FOIA Specialists learning the ropes in supporting them in executing these tasks, understanding applying principles of Information Management as well as see how FOIA Annual Report Submission works, Analyze Legal rules, policy and associated risks, Represent Agency in meetings and upward reporting, Review of Complex Cases, Coordinate Search Efforts, and Interpret Laws/decisions for drafting policy decisions.

In the first three months, we expect our FOIA analyst to help service a large queue of our clients of FOIA requests and has a large queue to assure they service the public in expedient, accurate, and fair response.

Responsibilities

Tasks would include:

  • Input requests and appeals following established standards
  • Draft correspondence to requester from established templates
  • Obtain/maintain case files as assigned
  • Maintain communication w/POCs to ensure efficient delivery of responsive documents
  • Maintain paper and electronic files for all requests assigned
  • Update and maintain information regarding the case in the FOIA database
  • Complete scanning log book, or appropriate tracking forms
  • Make copies; collate records and files related to initial FOIA cases, appeals and litigation cases
  • Other duties, as assigned, relating to the efficient operations of the Office of FOIA Services

Qualifications

  • College Degree
  • 1 year experience in FOIA analysis; additional career experience can be substituted with law degree or paralegal certificate
  • FOIAXpress experience
  • Additionally, this position PREFERS specific 1+ years of project experience with civilian government context of policy and law
  • Certification in any of: Archivist of the US Certificate of Completion of NARA Federal Records Management Training Program, Preferred to be ICRM Certified Records Manager (CRM issued by ARMA), American Society for Access Professionals membership, Project Management Certification
  • Must be able to pass basic NACI, background, drug and reference checks
  • 100% on-site at first, telework possible
  • Must be able to demonstrate fast, quality typing as well as fast visual prototyping
  • Tool Experience in PowerPoint, Visio, Office Automation
  • No Relocation Assistance, must be local

Additional Information

This role would not Process/Track FOIA request, draft memos, prepare response, conduct training, validate FOIA requests, support disputes/appeals, provide FOIA recommendations, nor require in-depth knowledge of FOIA practices.

Within a year, you would be a key part of making the team more interconnected across supporting multiple FOIA divisions, truly setting your career up for growth in FOIA.
