Position Overview

We are currently looking for an Environmental Specialist to support the National Environmental Sustainability Director in the operations of the Green Hope program, a national environmental sustainability program within a large, non-profit, affordable housing provider. This will include coordination of data and efficiency, renewable implementation projects, and tracking and reporting of utility, project, and program performance. We are searching for candidate who is passionate about the subject of energy and water efficiency, highly self-motivated, inquisitive, detail oriented, and a good communicator. 

Responsibilities

  • Use utility (electricity, gas, water, and sewer) tracking software, EnergyScoreCards. Responsible for managing the "scorecards" for a wide variety of job responsibilities related to tracking, reporting, and researching utility related issues. 
  • Work closely with the data analyst to manage work load and provide support to ensure the success of the team. 
  • Assist in the coordination of third party energy procurement, acting as the liaison between the broker and internal Mercy Housing staff. 
  • Work with national sustainability director on efficiency and renewable project and program implementation. Duties include, but are not limited to, coordinating implementation between internal staff and contractors, coordinating approval of materials used, ensuring rebates are applied for, etc. 
  • Track and report on performance of energy and water upgrades after implementations. Follow up with property and regional maintenance staff when performance is lower than anticipated to determine reasons for under performance and assist in correcting any issues. 
  • Write content for internal and external communication channels with content identified by the data analyst. 
  • Tracking and record keeping of various programs and lists, including but not limited to current property lists, company-wide energy and water upgrade tracking. 
  • Ensure compliance of all external commitments including: benchmarking of properties in required cities, data submissions for voluntary external efficiency commitments.
  • Assist in implementation of environmental sustainability programs. This is a broad category of responsibility for this position that will generally support the sustainability director and the environmental program and could include a broad range of activities from research to program development assistance to outreach and web content material development and other efforts in support of the environmental program. 
  • Meet regularly with the sustainability team to review status and discuss upcoming activities. 
  • Work with sustainability director to develop program protocols.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Science degree preferred. 

Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of broad environmental sustainability experience and particular experience in property utility consumption data analysis. Experience in multifamily preferred. 

Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.
  • Knowledge of Bright Power EnergyScoreCard or other energy tracking software preferred.
  • Self-motivated and dependable.
  • Well organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work on several types of projects with multiple time lines.
  • Experience facilitating solutions in complex environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication.
  • Treat a variety of people with respect and compassion.
  • Represent Mercy Housing in a professional manner at all times.
  • Understand and support the mission and values of Mercy Housing.
