Oil Spill Preparedness Planner (Environmental Planner)

Position Overview

The mission of the Spill Prevention, Preparedness, and Response Program (SPPR) is to protect Washington's environment, public health, and safety through a comprehensive spill prevention, preparedness and response program. The Spill's Program's vision is to prevent, prepare for and respond aggressively to oil spills; to be our best for the State of Washington. Our Spills goal is "zero spills".

In Washington, ships, pipelines and rail move 20 billion gallons of oil in and out of the state each year. The Spills program is a forward leaning leader in the world of prevention, preparedness and response organizations in the country. We have a very proactive legislature and active community throughout the state around the issue of oil spills. The stakes are high in ensuring our state has regulations that supports economic vitality with environmental protection. As a member of the Oil Spill Preparedness Planners, the Oil Spill Preparedness Planner will be a key resource in the following activities.

Responsibilities

• Evaluating the effectiveness of oil spill contingency plan, response equipment, and personnel capability through oil spill drills.
• Reviews, analyzes and recommends approval of industry oil spill contingency plans.
• Collaborate with local, state, federal, tribal governments and communities on development of geographic response plans.
• Support program in 24/7 oil spill response capability as a member of the Incident Management Team.

Qualifications

• A Master's degree or above with major emphasis in land use, urban, regional, environmental, or natural resource planning, landscape architecture, geography, land use or environmental law, public administration with an environmental emphasis, or closely related field.
• 2 years of professional experience in land use, urban regional, environmental, or natural resource planning, and/or program development.

Additional Information

• Critical Position: This position has been identified as a Critical Agency positions and the incumbent in this position is expected to work during facility closures and natural disasters.
• After-hours work: This position may be required to act as duty officers for after-hours pager duty on rotation.
