The growth in the wind industry provides an opportunity to expand our service offerings to include Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) consulting services to wind energy project operators and other industry participants. Many aspects of the industry and our work occur in an outdoor, industrial, at heights environment.

Position Overview

Intuitive Safety Solutions is currently seeking Safety Professionals for the wind industry. These positions will be based in the United States.

Responsibilities

Apply ISS advanced risk methodologies to develop, implement, maintain and continually improve best practices in managing HSE risks by:

  • Combining technical expertise with management consulting skills
  • Identification, assessment and management of industrial risks using recognized risk management techniques to enhance safety and environmental performance
  • Project management and mentoring junior consultants in the execution of technical HSE risk projects
  • Lead sales activities and the development of proposals containing innovative and cost effective solutions to identify and manage risks in accordance with client's business objectives
  • Engage in services, business development and day to day internal and external operations
  • Manage Individual Performance including goal-setting, coaching and dialogue, and evaluate/assess the performance of individuals
  • Regularly re-assess the individuals’ competence level and actively support the competence and career development of employees including maintenance of appropriate records of education, training, skills and experience
  • Support Head of Section in resource allocation and organization issues
  • Support Head of Section in recruitment issues, and participate in recruitment processes in accordance with section plans and budgets
  • Work with Head of Section to plan for and achieve the section’s annual budget
  • Establish and maintain work processes that are as consistent as possible (and relevant) with approaches used in other Sections
  • Support Head of Section with knowledge management and Service development
  • Support Head of section with marketing, sales and customer service management
  • Liaise with Head of Section and Customer Service Managers/Business Development Leaders regarding resource outlook for business opportunities
  • Support Head of Section and Project Managers/Project Sponsors with regard to resource allocation to projects

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2 years HSE or Risk Management experience required; prefer 5 years experience providing risk management services, with knowledge of and proven ability to conduct technical risk assessment applying any of the following methodologies:
  • Process Safety Hazards
  • Hazard Identification (HAZID)
  • Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP)
  • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Qualitative and Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA)
  • Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)
  • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Industrial Hygiene
  • OR equivalent methodologies * Experience working within the wind energy industry preferred
  • Leadership experience, or demonstrated interest with potential for success in leading a team

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The successful candidate should:

  • Have knowledge of and proven ability to conduct HSE technical risk assessments applying any of the following, or equivalent, methodologies: Process Safety Hazards, Qualitative and Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), Process Hazard Identification (HAZID), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Be proficient in MS Office programs (principally Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access)
  • Have organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines and set and adjust priorities
  • Be team oriented with strong interpersonal and relationship building abilities
  • Possess strong writing, listening, and communication skills
  • Be able to see the overall picture, cooperate across borders and share knowledge
  • Strong desire and willingness to plan and execute projects which can be highly variable in scope
  • Demonstrate professional and technical curiosity and motivation to understand new topics relevant to clients concerns

Demonstrated interest and potential for success to:

  • Work with people, facilitate goal-setting, and possess a drive to make the section and department succeed in reaching business goals
  • Develop a good understanding of human resource management processes
  • Develop managerial skills and the ability to motivate and lead by way of example

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal office environment with moderate noise levels, occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs., regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching
  • Ability to perform consistent work on PC
  • Regular domestic and international travel to client offices, facility sites, and conferences required
  • Occasional work outdoors in harsh conditions including climbing stairs and ladders to ascend wind turbines, looking up to view towers, traveling by car up to six hours and walking on uneven terrain
  • *Note that physical requirements for climbing turbines (WTG’s) require a body weight restriction of 260 pounds and strenuous climbing up to 330’ vertically

Compensation: $28.00 to $34.00 /hour
