Position Overview

Sewanee is currently seeking a Sustainability Fellows Coordinator

  • Department: Environmental Stewardship & Sustainability

  • Full Time vs Part Time: Full-time
  • Appointment Term: 1 year - August 1, 2018 through July 31, 2019
  • Positions Directly Supervised: None
  • Positions Indirectly Supervised: Sustainability Fellows

Supervision Received: 

  • This position receives general supervision
  • Broad instructions are provided and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out assignments
  • Completed assignments and finished products are reviewed by supervisor after completion

Personal Interaction/Communications:

  • Student Contact: Student contact from multiple backgrounds and interests
  • Internal: Faculty, Farm Manager, Domain Manager, Director of Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability
  • External: Visitors, parents, other institutions, colleges with sustainability programs

Responsibilities

  • With direction from the Sustainability Program Manager to further develop the Sustainability Fellows Program through mentorship, proposal review, leading of monthly meetings, and tracking progress on projects
  • Serves as a liaison between students and the Sustainability Program Manager, fostering relationships and growing the Sustainability Fellows program
  • Work with students and staff to facilitate participation in national sustainability organizations and meetings, specifically but not exclusively, AASHE
  • Work with all students interested in campus sustainability
  • Work specifically with student clubs and theme houses (e.g., Green House, Farm House) with an interest directly or indirectly in campus sustainability
  • Maintain the Sustain Sewanee web portal and other communications for promoting activities related to environment and sustainability as assigned.
  • Participate in orientation activities for new students arriving on campus, including student activities fair
  • Tracks student activities and reports weekly to supervisor
  • Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position
  • Monitors expenditures against budget; prepares budget data for review/approval by supervisor/department head
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors in Environmental Field of Study preferred
  • Experience: 2 years of experience in on campus sustainability in Higher Education (may be volunteer or club)
  • Job Related Skills: Office suite, effective communicator, organized. Licenses/Certification Driver's License required
  • Machines and Equipment Used: Automobiles and vans
