Position Overview

  • The Department of Natural Resources is hiring a Natural Resources Research Scientist Senior in Madison.
  • This position is for 20 hours/week. We plan to hire one person to fill both this position and the Forest Inventory Specialist position (Job ID 11660 or JAC 1703109) to work a total of 40 hours/week. If interested, please apply for both positions.

Responsibilities

  • The Forest Economic Analyst with the Bureau of Forest Management, Sciences Section, serves as an expert on forest economics issues for the Division and the Department.
  • The position will assist with the collection and analysis of forest economic data and communications, including regular preparation of forest economic fact sheets and sharing of findings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Duties will include the use of input-output models (primarily IMPLAN) to evaluate the effect of the forest industry in the state. Additional duties may include maintaining current understanding of the forest economics literature through literature reviews, preparing written reports, and providing oral presentations on forest economics.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of forest economics and forest products industry in Wisconsin.
  • The ability to effectively cooperate and collaborate with others to accomplish a shared goal.
  • Positive attitude and the ability to complete high quality work and adhere to a timeline with little supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Best qualified applicants will have a degree in Forest Economics.

Additional Information

This is a limited term (LTE) position. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Compensation: Starting pay is between $17.98 and $22.47 per hour depending upon experience and qualifications. Pay on appointment for current or former state employees may vary based on the applicable provisions in the State Compensation Plan. This position is in Pay Schedule/Range 15-03.
