Position Overview

RES is currently seeking a Lead Solar PV Technician for our site in Lamesa, TX.

The successful applicant will be directly responsible for all field service functions needed to successfully operate a utility scale solar facility. This is a working managerial role. The main focus of the position will be diagnosis and repair of the entire electrical system including DC collection, AC collection and AC delivery.

Employee will be responsible for facility reporting and facility management, recognize and plan required tasks, lead the site team, manager supporting subcontractors as needed and be flexible to work in any and all aspect of the plant to ensure project success.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all tasks are recognized, correctly prioritized, delegated properly and delivered in a safe and timely manner at the highest quality.
  • Acts as the on call 24/7 first responder to all alarms and system non performances.
  • Write JSA, procedures and work instructions.
  • Give direction, take direction, identify problems, develop and implement solutions.
  • Conduct analysis independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Use and understand electrical testing and diagnostic equipment for both AC and DC.
  • Ability to use electrical tools, hand tools and machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical equipment and components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair AC and DC faults and failures, to include; inverters, trackers, ac and dc wiring, sensors, PV modules, PV arrays etc. found in a utility scale solar project.
  • Safely replace components of: inverters, trackers, modules, sensors and electrical equipment found in a utility scale solar project.
  • The ability to oversee or direct others to safely replace components found in a utility scale PV solar facility.
  • Use and direct others to use a CMMS system for maintenance tracking.
  • Use and direct others to use SCADA and other software control and diagnostic systems.
  • Properly keep and track facility tool and parts inventory.
  • Properly use, store and maintain site equipment.
  • Order and use facility material and equipment properly.
  • Order replacement supplies as needed.
  • Ensure all project work complies with contractual requirements.
  • Work in remote field conditions in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to multitask.Ability to build strong teams.
  • Available for 24-hour on-call duty to meet contractual requirements.
  • Oversee manage and adhere to the overall site safety program, ensuring RES’s safety program is correctly impended and followed.
  • Lead site safety meetings, conduct site inductions, write and review JSA, and method statementsManage site LOTO program.
  • Lead small team of site staff.
  • Manage subcontractors as needed for facility support.
  • MV experience; able to write and or follow switching orders, test connections, conduct switching and apply grounds.
  • MV experience; able to test and troubleshoot transformers, switchgear, relays, power meters, batteries and other substation equipment.
  • MV experience; the ability to conduct monthly substation inspections and oversee annual maintenance.
  • Accurately follow company NERC program and be responsible for on-site NERC compliance efforts.
  • Respectfully liaise with client on site.
  • Respectfully liaise with TSP, QSE / Off taker for coordination and outage scheduling.
  • Respectfully liaise with land owners and local community.
  • Accurately produce and submit daily, weekly and monthly reports as required.
  • Ensure ground maintenance and vegetation control policies are adhered to as required.
  • Assists tracking and ensures deliverables on site are met.
  • Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action when needed.
  • Reports and mitigates potentially unsafe conditions immediately
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager, Director or Vice President.

Qualifications

Communication:

  • Internal with Engineering, site teams, corporate office, and supervisor.
  • Externally with sub-contractors and vendors.
  • Listening skills:
    • Relationship building.
    • Leadership.
    • Safety Training.
    • Read Electrical schematics and prints.
    • CMMS system for maintenance tracking.
    • SCADA and other software control and diagnostic systems.
    • Communication system troubleshooting.
    • NERC requirementsMS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.), knowledge of SQL a plus.

Time management to include:

    • Knowledge of Solar Concepts and Principles.
    • Industry standards.
    • Inspecting Physical Objects.
    • Fundamental knowledge of heavy equipment.
    • Fundamental knowledge of Cranes, rigging and lifting.
    • Stress Management.

Education and experience:

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Master electrician license OR Electrical Journeyman or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a related position.
  • Available to travel to other sites on short notice.
  • Must have a valid current driver license, eligible for corporate vehicle insurance coverage.
