The Marketing and Communications team, comprised of the Marketing and Communication Director and the Communications Manager, is a nimble and impactful team focused on raising awareness of CORAL’s mission and elevating the organization into a new realm of brand recognition.

Position Overview

CORAL is seeking an experienced Communications Manager to work alongside the Marketing and Communications Director to steer and implement a comprehensive communications strategy. Specifically, the Communications Manager will lead CORAL’s digital and print marketing projects, including overseeing all visual collateral, social media, website and newsletter content. The Communications Manager collaborates closely with international program teams to communicate stories from-the-field with the broader CORAL community.

Classification:

  • A full-time, exempt employee reporting to the Marketing and Communications Director and working from CORALʻs headquarters in Oakland, California.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications Director to create a comprehensive and proactive communications strategy that builds support for CORAL; implement plan across core areas of responsibility.
  • Advance CORAL’s brand across targeted marketing channels and ensure that branding and messaging are consistent across the organization.
  • Write, edit and produce diverse and compelling communication materials and collateral including, newsletters (print and digital), annual reports, annual calendar, press releases, flyers, fundraising appeals, brochures and more.
  • Oversee digital presence, including developing and managing dynamic and timely web content for www.coral.org with a goal to increase traffic as well as web-driven donations.
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy that’s aligned with the broader department strategy; write, edit and monitor all social media content, which includes promotions and messaging that will increase engagement and brand visibility.
  • Produce content for CORAL’s campaigns and storytelling needs as required, including writing and editing content across all marketing platforms.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications Director and program staff to support media strategies for on-the-ground campaigns.
  • Establish reporting goals with the Marketing and Communications Director to measure performance across all communications platforms.
  • Maintain CORAL Style Guide and key messaging documents to ensure consistency in visual and written communications across the organization.
  • Edit proposals, grants and written materials produced by staff to ensure brand alignment.
  • Assist with direct mail and email marketing campaigns to support fundraising efforts.
  • Work effectively with external vendors, partners and contractors.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, marketing, PR, journalism or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of marketing/communications experience, preferably related to environmental issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and project management skills; producing print publications, principles of design, print buying and proofing.
  • Prior experience developing comprehensive communications that delineate clear goals and measurable results, including a thorough understanding of branding, strategic communications planning, advocacy and media relations.
  • An eye for captivating storytelling. Experience translating interviews, proposals and reports into compelling stories that motivate programmatic and funding commitments.
  • Prior experience creating a budget and the demonstrated ability to work within strict budgetary guidelines.
  • Experience managing volunteers or interns.

Specific Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Desired:

  • A passion for the environment.
  • Ability to write clearly, persuasively and effectively in a variety of written and electronic formats.
  • Immaculate proofreading and editing skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and other digital tools and an interest in using these tools to drive action and engagement.
  • Familiarity with various marketing analytics tools, including Google Analytics, CoSchedule and/or Hootsuite and survey analysis.
  • Knowledge of graphics (photo/video) software for print and web publication.
  • Prior experience managing multiple projects with considerable deadline pressure and shifting priorities.
  • Basic proficiency with HTML.
  • A good sense of humor, strong interpersonal skills and a team-player mentality.
