Position Overview

Western Technologies Inc. a leader in consulting engineering services throughout the southwestern United States has an opportunity to join our office in Tucson, Arizona. Tucson is the second largest city in the state and the economic engine of the region with strong technology, education, medical, military, and tourism sectors. National forests, parks, and a monument surround the city. Tucson is home to the University of Arizona, a premier PAC-12 university with over 50,000 students, and top-tier academics/athletics.

Assist in routine to moderately complex environmental assessment and remediation projects. Must show incremental improvement following training and proficiency with technical methods and regulatory requirements to carry out daily work assignments involving field inspections, detailed documentation of field work for Phase I environmental site assessments, the drilling of soil borings, installation of monitor wells, use of field instrumentation, collecting soil, groundwater, surface water, and vapor samples for laboratory analysis, data evaluation, and report writing. Other responsibilities to include indoor air quality monitoring, asbestos surveys, lead-based paint risk assessments, and other industrial hygiene duties. Physical ability to work in extreme heat, night shifts, and in personal protective equipment (PPE).

Responsibilities

  • Perform site reconnaissance, field observations, data collection, documentation, and other field assignments.
  • Must be able to work closely with drill rigs, excavators or other heavy equipment in the field during investigation activities and installation of groundwater and soil vapor monitoring wells.
  • Participate in training programs for professional development, safety, project management, field methods and standard practices.
  • Perform field and laboratory tasks for other professional services including geotechnical surveys.
  • Monitor, oversee, and perform verification testing for the implementation of abatement work by independent contractors/subcontractors.
  • Overnight and extended travel is required with this position.

Qualifications

Skills / Abilities:

  • Effective in oral and written communication.
  • Must pass medical requirements for PPE.
  • Capable of technical writing for non-science professionals.
  • Prepare reports using Microsoft Office Suite.

Education:

  • BS degree in environmental engineering, environmental science or other physical science.

Licenses / Registrations:

  • A valid driver’s license with a verified acceptable driving record.
  • One or more of the following is preferred.
  • OSHA 40-hour Hazardous Waste Site Operations certificate.
  • EPA accreditation as an Asbestos Inspector and/or Contractor Supervisor.
  • EPA certification as a Lead-Based Paint Risk Assessor.
