Aerial View of Awesome Wind Turbines

Siemens has a significant stake in most cleantech technologies, but it’s probably best known for its leadership in wind.

In 2012, Siemens rose to the world’s third biggest turbine manufacturer, up from 9th the year before – about a 10% market share in the world market.

The company’s turbines will be on the US government’s biggest wind farm, but those 2.3 megawatt (MW) turbines are tiny compared to the 6 MW turbines it’s developed for offshore wind. One turbine can power 6000 European homes!

Siemens has also come up with an innovative way to repower old turbines so they don’t have to be replaced – "DinoTails" and "DinoShells."

Google recently bought the entire output of a Texas wind farm built with Siemens’ turbines.

Check out this video – you can actually get an aerial view of what it’s like to be at the top of one of those enormous turbines.
