Climate Change Could Be Reducing Wind Potential – Study

Global climate change may be reducing the intensity of wind around the globe, according to a new study.

As temperatures at the Earth’s poles warm faster than the rest of the globe, differences in air pressure between the regions decreases, which in theory could result in less wind.

And data collected in the U.S. seems to support the theory. There’s been an increase in the number of low- or no-wind days in the Midwest, according to Sara Pryor, an atmospheric scientist at Indiana University.

However, Pryor and other authors of the study–published in the Journal of Geophysical Research–say the research is only preliminary.
