Silver Spring Networks Expands to Australia

Silver Spring Networks, a leading Smart Grid networking solutions company, announced that it has been selected to provide the network to support the rollout of a government-mandated Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) program in Australia.

Deployment of the program will begin on September 1, 2009 by Jemena Electricity Networks (JEN) Limited, a subsidiary of energy
infrastructure company Jemena Limited, and United Energy Distribution
(UED).

It is scheduled for completion
by 2013 and will network approximately 1 million homes and businesses
throughout Victoria, Australia.

Under the agreement, Silver Spring Networks will provide network infrastructure, devices, software and variety of services.

Silver Spring Networks provides the hardware, software and services that allow utilities to deploy and run advanced applications, including Smart Metering, Demand Response, Distribution Automation and Distributed Generation, over a single, unified network. SSN’s Smart Energy Network is based on open, Internet Protocol (IP) standards, allowing continuous, two-way communication between the utility and every device on the grid.

SSN has successful deployments with utilities serving 20% of the US population, including Pacific Gas & Electric (NYSE: PCG), Pepco Holdings (NYSE: POM) Florida Power & Light (NYSE: FPL) and Oklahoma Gas & Electric.
